5th September - It'll Never Happen To Me!
It's a subject that a lot of business owners don't want to discuss because 'It'll never happen to me!'.
The event from the Business Mastermind Group in Corby, showed that it can and it did for one particular member, Jon Newlyn, owner of Tickling Trout when his office was completely crushed by a tree after a storm. Communications is the lifeblood of any organisation, lose that and you have a real chance of losing your business.
The seminar on 5th September explored the possible issues. Oliver Shevki, from Convergence Communications and Lesley Evans from The Office Genie, highlighted that there's a lot you can do to mitigate disasters, for not a lot.
From virtual switching to mobiles, cloud numbers and virtual answering services, to the actual switching of people to different locations, even working from home, because, as Joy May from Absolute Works highlighted, it's not all about technology because people still buy from people and, keeping your employees completely involved during a disaster situation can stop the carpet being pulled from underneath you if they decide to leave because they don't have confidence in you to recover.
June Titterton-Fox from You Systems explored in more depth the number and types of applications that can now be hosted in the cloud, sidestepping the geographic issue, raising the security and, most importantly, removing the single point of failure.
