I liked the content. It was titled 'It'll never happen to me' and was all about risk, which happens to be my background from my PAYE years. It's not something I would have gone to specifically but it was a good catch up and particularly useful to the small business owners in the room. The big learn was that, of course, whatever we think we're doing, we're never doing enough. I needed to talk to Sean. That was my spec intention. I'd been to one of the previous meetings and hadn't necessarily got the answers I needed regarding the structure and the focus of the Mastermind group itself. I've had a chat with one of the members we know very well, Jackie Frost, and she recommended that we went to the next meeting to catch up with Sean, which we did. I got clarity on what the focus is, because it was Steve Darnell who had presented the group as being like a while new opportunity to acquire new opportunities to win new customers. In fact the group itself has an element of that attached to it but it's not its current focus right now which I suspect is more to do with the fact that it's still building. So I was after an idea of what return I could expect and numbers of opportunities, when in fact there's far more organisation and structuring going on, which is important, but not to me right now as I'm already a member of another mastermind group.

The thing that interested me was that, in terms of some of the presenters and some of the others that were there, they were of a high quality, with a number of people speaking on different things. I'm not just talking about the mastermind membership who brought a few things to the table, that's a standard issue as far as I'm concerned, but it was the others that were there, and some of the members who did not speak, I found had a particularly interesting story about the unique ways they were dealing with their business and how they were packaging things up for the benefit of their clients. I liked that and I'm talking to a couple of people who were significantly connected to the others. That interested me because it wasn't a race to the bottom. In actual fact it was more of an amalgamation of the top. We were bringing a senior partner of a reasonable sized country practice over from Northern Ireland to have the opportunity to see a mastermind group in action and to talk to some of the stake holders that might be involved. What I liked about that was that they were prepared to tell the story; They weren't holding back punches, but the point was that the story was a good story that they were delivering and it was a worthwhile story. They were all attending because they could see a benefit, and that message comes across so much more when it's a stake holder saying it rather than me trying to sell the concept of "lets do one of these in Northern Ireland". It went very well and we' have already a couple more meetings set up in Northern Ireland to move everything on. It's a journey that the accountant was on. My expectation was that when he went across it could be a consolidation rather than him going even further in the journey, but no, he grasped the opportunity and has now moved on, and he has gone further, so that pleased me. That, in essence, came from the discussion we had with stakeholders/group members.

Overall a very good event which gave much stronger networking connections than conventional networking. A great mix of people there, good presenters and well organised. I would recommend any business owner to attend one of these events.

I think the format of the event was particularly exceptional, very much different to other events I've been to; Moslty in the way that the host got people to interact with each other to start with. I was attending the event because of an invite by one of the mastermind group members. Largely it was with a view to becoming part of that mastermind group.

The event had good attendance and good speakers: They were interesting and presented in a good way. I was there to observe to see if we want to become a member. It was really interesting. I don't think many people have the contingency plans that the speakers were talking about. I think it was interesting and the networking by colours was good as well; It was better than the usual mingling around.

The event was easy to understand and relevant to my needs. I wanted to learn something new, and you always learn something when you go to these events. The event centred around knowing your numbers so I'm trying to make more effort to get my top line numbers every month.

I liked the obvious knowledge and expertise of the speakers and how they put the information across in ways that made it interesting. From the point of view of The Marketing Centre we like the initiative that Burgis & Bullock have developed in trying to get local business people together, but it's a little bit difficult for us as we have an independent transparency policy which makes it a little difficult for us to get more involved than we are. I also have other business interests outside The Marketing Centre so I thought it would be interesting to come along and explore that side of it. I learnt some good information from the speakers. I think the talk on the numbers was particularly well done. It showed us that what the numbers might initially seem to be demonstrating, if you dig a bit deeper and know what to look for, might lead you to different conclusion. The session from Brian Jerome on the funding highlighted some alternatives that it's potentially useful to be aware of for my clients. It was all done in an engaged way which I think was helpful. I made a few useful connections as well. It's one of the reasons to attend these sorts of events. I don't think at the moment I can get more formally involved at The Marketing Centre, but I might consider getting more involved with some of my other businesses. I'll certainly be giving that more thought over the next few months. There's a particular project I'm working on at the moment that I might talk to Burgis & Bullock about and see their thoughts on it, so that's something I'm interested in taking forward.

I liked what I learned from the event; I thought it was very informative on the part of all the speakers. I learned quite a lot and it was very useful. I had no expectations. I was invited and went out of interest. It was a useful event to go to.

It didn't assume I knew everything and gave me insight, and the ability, to look at my business in a different way, which was refreshing. I didn't really know what I was going to get although I knew it would be something. It's nice to get exposure with other like minded individuals. It's good to network as you never know when there might be crossover. As a business owner it's always good to get exposure. We're new to Burgis & Bullock so it was good to see their office and see how they do things, to reinforce the decision I've made; It's always a daunting decision moving accountants but I feel reassured in that decision. I think the main thing I took away from the event was the ability to look at the figures that we have as a company in a different way. I've always looked at them in method A if you like and they've shown me methods B and C, which spins it on it's head to show it in a new way. I also liked the little mantra; Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity and cash is reality. It's nice to have these little things and the words to live by.
